AEIS for International Students: Your Pathway to Singapore Government Schools

The Admission Exercise for International Students (AEIS) is an annual examination conducted by Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE), giving international students the opportunity to gain placement in local government and government-aided primary and secondary schools.

What is AEIS?

AEIS assesses proficiency in English and Mathematics, with the difficulty level tailored to each student’s age group. Students who pass are offered school placements based on available vacancies, their exam performance, and the appropriate grade level for their age.

Who Can Apply?

International students generally aged 7 to 15, who are not currently enrolled in the Singapore education system, are eligible to sit for AEIS. For Primary school placement specifically, MOE’s admissible age ranges (as of 1 January of the year of admission) are:

Primary 2
Primary 3
Primary 4
Primary 5

Exact eligibility criteria and documentation requirements should be verified with MOE and Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Exam Format

AEIS covers two papers: English Language and Mathematics, set at a level appropriate to the student’s target grade.
